A Temporary Protective Order (TPO) is a form of restraining order issued by a judge. A TPO may protect you from violence, or threats of violence. A judge may issue a TPO, which prohibits your spouse or significant other from physical contact, communication (phone, mail, Internet) and harassment.

If a judge grants your request for a temporary restraining order, he or she may also grant you additional rights and remedies, including:
- Temporary custody of the children
- Temporary exclusive use of the marital home
- Child support
