Georgia Child Support Laws
In Georgia, judges issuing a child support order must perform a child support calculation using the Georgia child support guidelines. Although judges may deviate from the guidelines in certain circumstances, such deviations are rare.

Modifying an Existing Child Support Order
A person seeking a child support modification in Georgia must show that there has been a material change of circumstances since the time of the previous child support order. Examples of a material change of circumstances may include a job loss or a significant change in wages or child care expenses.
Modification of a Custody or Visitation Order

Minor modifications of a visitation order are easier to obtain than a change of custody. A change of custody is warranted in cases where a child's welfare (physical or emotional) is significantly impaired by the existing custodial arrangement.
